Here’s another abstract design I created, this time based on a photograph of bare tree branches in autumn. I created 3 variations of the design, which you’ll find below, along with photographs of a selection of products available for sale. Feel free to browse the complete product line for each variation, or check out my store.
The original photograph consisted of a tree with its bare branches contrasting against the bright blue sky. I digitally altered the photograph to create an intricate interplay between two copies of the image. The final result has an abstract yet organic quality to it, and each color variation creates a distinct feeling in the design.
Abstract branches variation No.1 – Orange and black.
The full product line for this variation can be found here. I like this color combination since it blends the elegant, calm black and the bright, energetic orange, creating tension and a complex interaction.
Abstract branches variation No.2 – Burgundy and light blue.
Full product line. This color variation is much more calm than the orange and black one. The burgundy creates a sense of weight and concentration, while the bright blue is lighter, acting more as a part of the white space.
Abstract branches variation No.3 – Deep pink and green.
You can see the complete product line for this variation here. This color combination is the most vivid of all the three, specially because of the deep pink used. The green used here maintains a more organic feeling, that contrasts nicely with the more artificial, pop-inspired pink.
My favorite is probably the deep pink and green abstract branches variation. I specially like how this design looks on the throw pillow and the laptop sleeve. There is just enough of the original photograph for the viewer to realize that the abstract design was created from a photograph of a tree, but there is enough abstract elements, plus the coloration, to give the design another dimension. It kind of looks like a wild paint splatter, until you take a deeper look.
