The abstract blue and gray swirl artwork combines the natural beauty of nature, particularly plants, and digital manipulation techniques to give it a more stylized, abstract aesthetic. The use of grays, black, and white, creates an elegant piece. Your eyes are guided through multiple focus points, created through the use of a light blue as a means of accentuation. The piece has a sense of movement, but it is elegant, reposed, and balanced.
I superimposed photographs of flower petals in order to create the abstract piece. This also helped in creating a rotation effect as well. I love how the artwork has its particular swirl, as well as other pieces in the same series. You can see them here: Abstract Swirl No.1
Abstract realism, a contradiction in terms, is what most closely resembles what I am aiming to achieve with the photograph. Through the use of digital photographs, and techniques such as overlaying of geometric figures, multiple exposure, or focusing on areas of the photograph that have a distinctly abstract aesthetic, an abstract artwork is created. However, the realistic elements used to create the artwork are still clearly visible and in most cases, recognizable. Thus, it uses realistic elements in an abstract way.
